Very cool idea on how to hold a ferret while claw clipping! If we ever have to do it alone, now we know how. XD Currently my boyfriend holds the ferret while I do the trimming. It works well because the ferrets trust me and hardly shake when getting their claws done. Kipling just relaxes and enjoys a neck rub from my boyfriend (he moans too XD). Poor Twitch used to shake so badly when we had someone else do the clipping.

I just wanted to let you know that I tried this with Jax (he still has tiny baby nails) and I nearly got my nose bitten off! -lmao- There were tears, man, tears! I hope you're happy.
(btw, Jax's nails are now perfectly trimmed. But that's not the point! My nose! -lol-)

Yeah I wouldn't want to even attempt this with Gypsy! (she got me on the nose yesterday too lol) The belly method won't work (eugh sticky Nutrigel on the carpet) I think I'm gonna have to sneakily do it whilst she sleeps.. at least I can get the vet to do them all soon when she goes under for desexing lol

Warning if you cut the nail back to far try a few of these things you might have lying around such as baking soda, bar of soap, and of course a bottle of syptic powder. Hold either ONE of these on the bleeding nail until it stops. One time my poor Houdini caught her nail onto my shirt, I just ran out of syptic powder so I used baking soda and it did the trick!

Bella won't sit still for scruffing. Do you think scruffing her with my mouth would effect her any different? I don't have anything against using my mouth to scruff- I'm just afraid to bite too hard.

A ferret's skin is much tougher than our own. Remember, their own momma's use this method all the time and their teeth are sharper than our own. I mouth scruff Belle all the time. It is the only scruff that she will respond to.

Thanks for the advice and the diagram really helped. I was really unsure about the exact angle to cut. Seeing the lines across the nails helps a lot.
Thanks~

We have a squiggle worm too, she goes berserk! Hates it!!! Her little paws go together and she pushes them out under her chin and then she pees. It is definitely problem!
