I've been known to do 2 nails, let them run for a bit, 2 or 3 more, run around. It makes it easier on both of us. Usually I'm on the couch watching tv and just catch her on commercial breaks. *giggle*

Is it weird that Tina has always just stood there and let me do her nails? Unfortunately I think Taz will not cooperate so well.

yes, i think thats strange! i wish mine could care less.
try Kristens way with Taz if you have trouble, it really works.

I make a mix of FerreTone and FerreVite and put a glob the size of a half dollar on their belly. Now, when they see the bottle, they roll right over and start licking before I've even put anything there! I can line them all up on the couch, and have hubby start at one end while I start at the other, and we can finish them all before they've licked it all off. Works best for me.

Don't feel bad! I did it the "wrong way" for a while. I still do sometimes, because their nails aren't long enough to cut parallel. I read that you cut them parallel because if you cut them diagonally, it leaves a corner of the nail against the floor. If you cut parallel, then they are flat...did that make sense?

I don't have a ferret yet but was wondering if holding them like that hurt them. or how u know where abouts to scruff them.

thats not stupid, its somthing i bet everyone thought before being reasured. scruffing your ferret doesn't hurt them; infact most just yawn and blink because it puts them in a position where they won't get hurt and you won't get hurt(can't whp around and bite). You'll find as a ferret owner you tend to scruff for a lot of things: cleaning ears, cutting nails, disapline...etc.

How old can you start clipping nails? My Sammy is 11 weeks and they are getting sooo long but he is so little I'm scared to clip them?

They need to be clipped!!! Age doesn't matter. Once they get long, it needs to be done! If you are really that scared to clip them, you can take them to the vet and have them done. I think my vet charges $7 per ferret. You can do that the first time and watch how they do it if you are uncomfortable!
