Yes, you use your teeth. Just bite hard enough to hold the ferret in your teeth.

i just cut Spike and zero's nails tonight.

i do this about every 2 weeks, sooner or longer depending on how long the nails get and how well they will sit. i use ferretone on the belly, i have to show them its there and they will sit.

but i noticed on spikes one front paw his nails were longer then the other. and zero's back nails didn't need to be clipped at all could have have clipped too much on zero's back nails?

and why would spike have longer nails on one paw vs the other?

I found something that is just as good as ferretone its called Nutrigel and is made by ilium. There is also Nutripet and that is made by Troy you can get either of these from a vet. I got mine from the Woodville pet doctor on woodville rd. If you can't get either of them from a vet I have seen it here

I have brought stuff form there before and you get what you order the next working day.
When clipping their nails you just put a blob of that stuff on their bellies and do their nails while they are licking it iff. Just makesure that you put enough on so that you finish the nails before they finish licking it off

My ferret gets thru the Nutripet (again, from australia = no ferretone) Waaaay too quickly to get thru all his nails in one go. It actually resulted in a cutting of the quick!! I was really freaked out, but he didn't squeal and it didn't bleed much, I just pressed a tissue there. I felt really bad about it.. I'm gonna have to make sure he's better occupied or asleep from now on.

I had no idea that's how you are suppose to cut their nails...parallel to the floor. I've been doing it the wrong way!! Why are you suppose to cut them like that? What's the difference? Does it cause problems in walking or something? I feel like a bad mommy now!

You know even after i clip missi's nails they are still sharp and hurt any one got any idea's some one said file them. Yea right i can barely get her to sit still through the clipping

This may sound a little weird... i already read "ferrets for dummies" and they did explain how to scruff a ferret but i still dont get it! how do u scruff a ferret???

Man, I tried to scruff Niki and then clip her nails but when I looked down and aimed the clippers, my vison got screwie. Maybe I should team up with my wife on this. ;D

lol...it looks really funny, but I'm sure it works....my dad would kill me if I did that, he doesn't even like when I give any kind of animal kisses...I would do that, but I clip the nails when they are asleep...it works fine...
