Over the weekend I unfortunately had to go through what we all dread and hope never happens. I have 4 free roam ferrets, occasionally we'll put them in the cage before we go to bed but not all the time. 2 of the 4 just turned 1 in January and Ive had them together since they were 8 weeks old (for reference in the story, they are Lilly and Link.) I also have 2 babies who are 6 months old (Luke and Leia) who we've also had since they were 8 weeks old. Lilly was last seen Friday night before going to bed and we woke up Saturday morning and started our day as normal and found Lilly dead. What happened was a freak accident of some sort. Our house is ferret proofed as much as a house can be ferret proofed. We found sweet Lilly bug hanging from the guest bed where the frame meets the head board. She wasn't hanging by the neck or anything, kind of like she was laying over it. The normal reactions happened and we were freaking out and then the tears came. She wasn't stuck and showed no signs of struggle (like scratches on the headboard in attempt to get out) so we think she might have been playing on the bed and somehow fell and hit something just right to have killed her almost instantly. Putting that idea in my head that she went fast and didn't suffer is helping me get through this. My question is, im not worried about Luke and Leia (the babies) but I am worried about Link since they've been together their whole lives. He doesnt seem different, he's still playing normal and eating just fine, but im also not sure if he realizes she's gone. Anything would be helpful as well as if anyone has any other ideas of what could have happened to Lilly! Ive been very very upset and I think I could accept it better if I understood it! Thanks in advance!
