Ok, so I just brought home a rescue ferret (very thin) and its attacking my other ferrets when they get close. Its not too bad but I dont want this to become a problem. I've separated them now, but I cant keep them like this forever. I wanna know if this has happened to anyone else. Also, I was thinking maybe the rescue's still scared? I'm pretty sure it came from an abusive household. It doesnt bite me though, it's actually very good with me. Please help. But if worse comes to worst I'll just be a foster mom, and give the ferret to someone who doesnt have any ferrets, cause as far as I know, its very sweet with people. Thanks.

I have only read about this happening... no first hand experience. I don't think its hopeless and I wouldn't give up just yet. Give the little guy a chance to adjust and then slowly introduce. One thing that I've heard is good to try.... take one other ferret out with your newbie and let them share a bowl of soup or some ferretone. It might be enough of a distraction to keep everyone calm. Be ready to move fast though. Some people have also switched bedding from cage to cage to allow them to get used to each other's scents. Just a couple of ideas.... good luck and let us know how things go.

It can take a few days for a newbie to adjust. It could be the new one wants to be dominant, and if that's the case it could take longer, and get ugly. The good news is that after all of the struggles our gang went through they all get along fine now.

if he's used to being an only ferret he may not realize the other ferrets are indeed ferrets. i've had some rough intros over the years but it always worked out in the end just remember - no blood, no poop, no foul. they are animals and need to figure out their hierarchy and the more you separate them (if there's no blood or poop) you're just putting off the inevitable. But if your new guy is a rescue - who knows what he's been thru - give him some patience and love and it will likely work out
