I have a 5 year old black footed ferret named ratticus jones, we we're given him back in november. He's really fragile, when i hold him i can feel his spine and his back legs are really skinny and clumsy kinda like hes unstable. He eats fine, active for a five year old. But I've noticed he pees a dark golden color, and i changed his diet today, maybe it was to all of a sudden for him, and hes been trying to make himself throw up, like hed try to regurgitate it, he succeeded once and it was this clear mucous that he threw up. And hes been caughing than he chews on something in his mouth, not sure what it is. I'm just really worried about him being a ferret lover and all, i'd like to make the rest of his life years worth while without any health problems, so please if you have any answers let me know, thank you.

I would get him to a vet as soon as possible if he is vomiting and his urine is discoloured. Ferrets can go downhill fairly quickly if you aren't able to pinpoint what is wrong with them and get them the help that they need.
I don't know anything about black footed ferrets really, but I would get him to a vet asap to make sure that nothing happens. Please keep us updated on your baby.

I agree, he needs to see a vet asap. Our paws are crossed that he recovers quickly.

The chewing could be teeth grinding, indicating nausea. I would see what the vet says too... poor baby sounds sick. Those could be symptoms of insulinoma. Its usually easily treated and not expensive to keep up. The test for it is relatively cheap too. I hope your baby feels better! Keep us posted.

How did you get a black footed ferret? They are an endangered species.
Domestic ferrets cant regurgitate....he needs a vet ASAP

So today Ratty seems better, he's not acting sick. So it mustve been the deit change, hes back on his old diet. However im still going to make him an appointment to check out his hind legs and his fragile body because im worried And yeah i heard they were, i was given him so im not sure how the last owner got him.

I think he's probably a sable with marking like a black footed ferret. BTW I believe it's illegal to own a BFF, they are on the endangered species list. Do you all know the story behind the BFF? I met the man who is in charge of introducing them back into the wild at the Chicago show. He is amazing!

dark goldish/brown pee is a sign of dehydration. the hacking and chewing could be a sign of mucus in his lungs.

He seems alot better hes really active, when hes in his cage and wakes up he automatically wants out to play and be held, so i think hes doing pretty good. I was talking to his previous owner about his back legs and his clumsyness, he said ratty was always like that since he was little. He thinks when ratty was younger before he gotten him something mustve happened. But im still concerned so to get a solid accurate answer i still want to take him to the vet
