My little guy Chaos has lost the use of his one eye. Somehow over the course of the day he has damaged his right eye to the point where it is leaky and has clouded over. I am callin the vet in the morning to ask when we can get him in to get it looked after but is there any advise for the meantime. Since I noticed it I have been using a damp, slightly warm cloth to attempt to rinse the gunk off him, and we have been checking on him every 30 minutes if we don't see him. He doesn't seem bothered by this new developement, which amazes me to be honest, but it does seem to be itchy. I would post pictures, but he won't sit still for me cause he doesn't like the eye rinsing. Any advise would be hugely appreciated.........

Hershey has gotten a corneal abrasion twice, playing too rough? It always heals over, just like in humans and I'm hoping that's what happened to Chaos. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Update: called the vet, and the vet told me that they do not have any space for him right now, but I have made an appointment. She suggested that until I can get him in to them , to use polysporin eye gel to help in case it is infected. He still doesnt seem too bothered by it and doesn't seem to be in any pain.

well, his eye is still cloudy but its not leaking anymore and the gel I have been putting on his eye seems to be making a huge difference for him. Still not sure if he is gonna regain use of his sight in that eye though.........

I'm so sorry it's not clearing. He'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I would strongly suggest you call your vet and ask them firmly to fit you in. Tell them you are happy to just go there and wait in case of a cancellation if they still insist they have no openings. Good thoughts from me that you get this issue resolved with no permanent damage to your ferret's eye. I know that vets are human - and extremely busy - but I don't think they should blow off an eye injury that lightly.

Just an update. Lost access to my other account somehow and waiting for new account approval. Chaos did in fact lose use of his eye. Its cloudy but intact. If you aask him I've been a pain of a mommy cause he never acts like anything happened except occasionally if I pay close attention with him and the others he scans around more than they do, but out side of that you'd never know. He is still one happy rambunctious fellow. Thanks to everyone for thinking of him....

Aw poor little guy. They are pretty adaptive little guys. I had my Tabby for over a year before I realized she was completely blind. Didn't bother her a bit and she was queen bee to all the boys. I'm sure he's just happy to be with mommy and getting so much attention.

That's sad, but I'm glad it doesn't seem to bother him. Moe had cataracts in both eyes and slowly lost his sight. It didn't seem to bother hiim much. Prissy, on the other hand, seemed to lose it more quickly and even tho we figure she's been almost completely sightless for at least 7-8 months she's always bumping into things that haven't been moved in all that time.

Poor thing Another of my ferrets, an older lady(not sure how old) has started to bump into things and is moving a lot slower than she used to. Wonder why some are affected so differently? So sad to see some take it so hard while others seem to not even notice the change.
