Ive had my little female ferret for about 4-5 days now, shes 4-5months old and has been a rather passive thing. But today shes gone completely feral. I stopped her from playing in the bin i have in my room and she bit me, so my partner went to grab her and she full on challenged him, hid under the bed before rushing out and leaping at his knee caps and latching on, he only just managed to get her in her in her cage by wrapping her in a jacket. Shes not climbing and rubbing herself on everything trying so hard to get out and its been at least an hr and a half. She hasn't been desexed yet or had her shots. Please help, i don't know whats wrong.

Sounds like she got a fright and her fight or flight instinct kicked in, it takes them quite a while to feel comfortable in new surroundings, a noise or something you might not even notice could have frightened her and she was running on adrenalin. I would cover the cage with a blanket or something so she feels more safe and let her calm down and hopefully she will be ok in the morning. It really isnt a normal response for a ferret but its possible. if she continues to be like this a vet visit might be in order to rule out a pain or illness issue.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my message. Ill try what you said and see how things turn out, this isnt the first time she biten either me or my partner but like you said i will take time. I worrie about her and am starting to think shes going feral. When she was in her cage after the incident she was very restless and trying to tip her water franticly trying to get out. I thank you again for your help and ask you the massive favor of keeping in touch in case sumthing goes wrong - Kaitlin

I agree with MM. She is in a new home and probably has trust issues. You didn't say where she came from or how old but I think she just needs some tlc and assurances that things are going to be good in her new home. She sounds like a biter....it takes time and patience to let her know biting isn't allowed and how much fun humans can be.

How is she doing this morning? I hope some quiet time to settle her fears has helped. She isnt going feral shes just afraid, sounds like fear reaction to me which can be overcome with time and love.

Being that she is not altered, she may be going into estrus. This will cause aggression. You need to get her to the vet. She will need to be spayed or given an injection to bring her out.
