Hi all, its been forever since I posted anything here. I figured I may as well for this one. Maybe you can see something we've missed.
Mojo was dealing with what we thought was Adrenal a few years ago - some of you older people may remember it. Anyhow - nothing ever came of it, and he had no major changes, other than his spleen being enlarged and a marked ferrety odor.
About 3 weeks ago, his large spleen went away. I immediately called my vet, my shelter director and even mommaweasel! No one had any ideas. Mojo seemed GREAT at this point - Happy, active, like he was at 3-4 years old. We didn't know what had happened, but we liked it.
Now he is sicker than sick. He can't keep anything down. We've had him in to the e-vet twice where he got antibiotics and carafate for his stomach. He was, at the time of that first visit, eating and drinking and pooping ok, though his poop was black, which made us think ULCER.
So after some fluids and advice, we went home.
Next day - things were better, at least marginally. We tried to get in with the regular vet on Saturday morning but their voicemail said that unlike most Saturdays, THIS saturday, they wouldn't be open. So we waited.
Monday came around and we had a work emergency and didn't get him in - but he had been being better - was keeping food down, was being perky and such again.
By Monday night things had taken a turn for the worse. After work, we packed him up again and took him to the evet again. They gave him a shot of antibiotics and more fluids - and taught us how to do it so we could keep him hydrated without bringing him in. He was acting off balance and really tired - and couldn't keep anything down, not even his meds or water.
Today, we got him in to the regular vet- and he's there now. We checked his glucose. It was 70, and he'd been fasting for awhile (duh - he wasn't keeping food down). He'd been grinding his teeth more, and had been drooling and pawing at his mouth - so we thought maybe insulinoma. But no.. It isn't that.
Theyve got him now for more tests - urine and a CBC. We don't know whats going on. He's extremely dehydrated again, which may be a clue whats going on - he's had a lot of fluids lately... 3 rounds of sub-q in the last 24 hours.
Oh: stats - he's 6 years old, and is 2.2lbs.
