Hello friends, I have no idea what my ferret Nero got into but he is definantly going through a blockage, we gave him pumpkin/water with some ferretone and are just praying he passes whatever he got into.. I can't find what he could of gotten into and he isnt a ferret that would just get into things and eat them... I guess all we can do is wait.. is there anything else you can do for a ferret with a blockage like this? I can't stop crying and it is just so painful to watch him struggle and cry when he tries to potty.

*update*
First thing this morning we rushed him to emergency vets. He is in good hands now and he did perk up some this morning after being hydrated periodically last night. He also did pass a little fur with the pumpkin and ferretone I gave him. We actually think it might be an ulcer combined with the fur, he was grinding his teeth and didn't eat or drink all day yesterday and further investigation into his litter box revealed some tarry black stools. His blood sugar got so low last night because he has nothing to eat or drink that he was very lethargic. When we gave him a bit of caro he did perk up to lap up some duck soup and water on his own so they are doing blood tests as well. I am so so so so happy he pulled through the night and is starting to look better! I will update again when I find out more...

I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing this but my advice would have been if the pumpkin didn't work he needed to get to the vet asap. I'm sending lots of good thoughts and prayers.

Yes, I am just now seeing this, but from now on, just take him straight to the vet. Ferrets can go downhill really fast so the longer you wait, the worse it could get. I'm glad you took him in.

I too am just seeing this and thought "PHEW!" when I saw that you took him to the vet. Sending good thoughts that he makes a quick recovery - having a sick baby is no fun. Please let us know how he's doing.

Thanks you guys!
Sadly this happened at almost midnight so I had to wait till morning for the emergency vet. Luckily I was able to tend him well until we got there. He is doing good, just VERY sleepy from the long day of many tests they did do on him. The blood work came back okay, and there doesn't seem to be anything blocking him inside. We figure its an ulcer and he is responding well to the meds: Carafate, Metronidazole, and amoxicillin thankfully!
The doctors where excellent also. I knew he was in good hands today.

I hated when Bandit got his ulcer and then he hated the meds and I was surprised he wasn't so stressed that it didn't heal.

He is doing great now, we are taking good care of him. He doesn't mind the carafate or the amox, but the metro he hated so much he frothed and peed on me! The poor little guy! He got lots of ferretone after that and he did better with it when I mixed it with Nupro and duck soup. He is just a little grumpy and tired but I don't blame him. He is getting overly spoiled though and it looks like he will bounce back soon!

He is definantly better now. I am just happy I can talk about things when I am panicked and crying as I go through it, it does help a lot. He is sleeping on my lap now, I think he forgives me about all the meds -- had to chuckle at your med post Barbara! At first he was stressful with it -- but I think now he realizes its okay since he is feeling okay from them. You always learn from these little guys. I have a fuzzy with insulinoma and adrenal, and another with adrenal. Nero is the fist I encountered with an ulcer. Now I have more knowledge of things to keep an eye out for. You live and learn!
