I was at work all day today, and my boyfriend was home with Archie. When he took his shower and came out he noticed Archie had found a way onto the counter & ate an easter chocolate and had gotten into some licorice. He cleaned everything up and put archie in his cage, and hung out with him all day. He left 45 minutes before i got home and in that time archie managed to start pooping out what i believe to be is blood. in his box and on my carpet.
I can't get him to the vet until thursday, what should I do?? Is he okay? He's running around like normal, and playing -- but his poop is runny and red. I'm really worried.
thanks in advance

the chocolate could be an issue. at the least, call the vet and inform them of what happened and ask what you should do; what you should look for that would indicate an issue happening.
as for the red poo, was the licorice red??? if so, that would most probably be why the poo is red. off chance it's blood and if that's the case, he needs to be seen by a vet asap if not sooner.

When Bandit ate a Hershey kiss I was told to make sure he got plenty of fluids and soup to help get the chocolate through his system faster. Suprisingly no one mentioned using vasoline or pumpkin for this but then I only talked to the ER vet tech who really didn't know much about ferrets. I think joclyn has it right about the red poo being the licorice if it was red. Keep a close eye on him for any other problems and if he changes his habits I would try to get him to a vet immediately.

My sister's ferret used to be addicted to red licorice, and it always turned her stools bright red! She told me to watch out for it in case Fizz ever got a hold of some by accident, and not to be worried, so it's fairly common from what I hear....assuming it was red, of course. If it was black, well...... I have no idea.

Normally poop that has blood in it is a very dark brown, almost black looking because it has been processed through their system. I would guess it is probably the dye they use. I would definitely call the vet and ask them what to do. That would be the best thing to do.
