My sable, Cody became very sick overnight, fine yesterday, dehydrated this morning.. Ate some ferretone, syringe fed him about 2/3 oz of water.. Calling vet, MUST go to work for a little while. Anyone know ho much fluid I should be aiming for? Pinch test shows some skin bounce back, not a ton, not a little.. Thoughts and prayers, please. ='(

I'm very sorry to hear about your ferret. I'm not sure about the amount of liquid you should aim for, but I'm sure the more, the better. My ferret drinks about 1/2 to 3/4 of her lock-on water crock each day, so maybe 3-4 oz? I may be totally wrong though. Either way, try to get him to the vet as soon as possible because ferrets don't do well being dehydrated. Sending positive thoughts your way.

The doc thinks it's possibly insulinoma. Not an easy pill to swallow. They are going to do bloodwork, give sub-q fluids and see in the am.. BUT, is diarrhea alone a sign of it? The vet also said it could be distemper. He has no drainage of any sort from his face. I think I will call in the morning and talk to the other ferret vet there...

The vet has no idea what's wong with Cody and two of my other boys, are also very sick. They are still drinking on their own, with some help. The results from his bloodwork aren't in yet. My boys have bloody mucousy poop. No actual poop, just blood and mucous. I feel so bad for them. When I find out the results of Cody's blood panel, I will bring Master and Prince in, too. =(

I brought Master and Prince to the vet yesterday afternoon bc tehy wetn downhill soo fast.. Later, I got a call from the vet saying their bloodwork came back. Normal glucose, anemic, low protein and normal white cell counts.. It has to be a virus? They added a 3rd antibiotic.. Sadly, the vet called me this morning and told me that Master had died in the night.. Cody is doing the same and could go either way and Prince is doing better.. Glad for Prince, but sooooo very, very sad about Master. ='(

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry this is happening and very sorry to hear about Master. Please continue to share with us as much as you can so we can all learn from this and know what to look for should we find ourselves in this situation.
For all of them to be affected it has to be a virus or that they all ate something that is poisionus I'd think - are there any plants they could have gotten into? Rat bait? Ant bait? Cleaning products?

I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.. I spoke to the vet today that specializes in exotics. She thinks it's ECE, the green slime disease. I disagree, but she thinks otherwise. Prince is doing much better and Cody is still dehyrdrated and not doing as well as he should. They are still on baytril, a steroid and sub-q fliuds. Very frustrating...

My Bandit had ECE and he did well but he was on antiobiotics for over a month to get it knocked out. He was also on pred for that time, but I don't remember which kinds or the dosages.
He then had two or three episodes of irritable bowel every year since. One thing I had to do since he was on meds for so long was give probiotics while giving but not at the same time. They're readily available now but then I got them from the vet.
Still praying both recover soon. Hugs

Well, it's been a few days since they came home and everyone is doing very well. Cody is very skinny, but way healthier than before. Prince only needed fluids for a day. That was crazy... Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. =D
