Ever since we got back from the vet Dominic has been very lethargic. He pretty much slept in his bed for the past few hours not doing anything else. My husband and I went to get him to clean his wound and he was a very limp ferret. His eyes are open though... And if I move him a little, he will react. He also pooped on himself. It was very black and tarry. He will not swallow anything at all... And I don't think that he's eaten anything in at least 8 hours!
I made some duck soup for him, but he won't eat it. He won't even lick up the ferretone...
The vet can't see us until the morning. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking that maybe he's a bit stressed from going out this afternoon? We were out for a long time.... But he needs to eat, and drink... :-(

He may have developed an ulcer and needs to see the vet. My heart goes out to you and more prayers are being sent. Hugs

I just went through this this weekend, no vet either, Fuzzy would bring up everything that I force fed and was pooping tar had a bg of 40, I got pred and pepcid into him and kept feeding small amts of soup every hour or so, just a little so he didnt bring it back up, after 24 hours he seemed to get past it and is now eating and pooping ok but it was sure scary. If he has pain meds on board, particularly Bupe they will zonk him right out, Pippin had that for his degloving foot injury and peed himself and was really out of it until it wore off, I cut his dose after that. I hope this helps. I lit a candle for him and am sending lots of good thoughts and prayers.

We did see the vet again. No ulcer. Waiting on lab work. Though the vet is thinking that it could have been a bit of shock from the day we had yesterday and the weather. Dom has been through a lot in the past few days. I'm to try and get him to eat every hour or so, keep him hydrated and warm.
It was really sweet today though, I had had Dominic out of the cage on my lap for a while and the other two were in the cage. When I put him back with them Promethius started licking Dominic all over his face and head, Malecco climbed in the blanket with him and snuggled as close as she could get right with Dom... now the two of them are snuggled on either side of him.

Oh my gosh, johari, I am SO SO sorry for your loss. Just know that you did all you could for him. Its amazing how fast they go downhill. It really leaves you scratching your head in frustration. Again, I'm so sorry. Lots of hugs to you.

I'm so sorry, I know how much you loved him and how little time you had with him. I was just reading something about, they don't really belong to us, we just have them on loan. Then they are so fragile.... but the love and smiles they give us for the short time we have them is worth the pain when they leave us. Hugs, lots of them.

Im so very sorry I lost my first ferret, Karat, to cancer back in July.. So trust me, i know EXACTLY how you feel. Even the current ferrets i have now still havent won my heart like she did. She was my life. Im not a vet, but i do work at one.. and during the time when karat was young and i took her in for shots, the vet told me that there is a chance that she could die from shock. Sadly, these little creatures get very stressed out.. I hope all is well.. sorry again.
