I don't think it's too late at all. Have they ever heard a squeaky toy before? If not, they'll probably come to it very quickly. I would train together, because they will imitate each other. I had only one girl who would come to the squeak (and there was no training, she came b/c she hates the noise ), but the others see her come and so follow. Now they will all come to it.

I call my ferrets by crinckling a pack of treats and re-inforcing it by saying 'what's this?' and they come running. its a good thing i added the words because one day i couldnt find the bag of treats and one of my ferrets ran under the bed and i couldn't catch him to put him away as i had to leave so i just said 'elliot whats this? and he came out. its good to prase them once in a while without giving them treats other wise if up end p in a pickle like i did your ferrets wont come unless they hear the treat bag.

None of mine listen to me, they just sorta look at me like my human son and roll their eyes haha "yeah right mom, anyway, im back to my adventure."
I still try i think thats whats important, i shake the treat can or crinkle the treat bag and I ALWAYS use their names when i pick them up and love on them so they get used to them.
Ive also learned to remember exactly where I end up finding them curled up sleeping when they poop out while playing, generally ive found they go back to sleep in the same spots if they dont climb back into their cage. (which they are actually pretty good about doing to use the litter box and eat and whatnot)
Barrett and Niner are the only ones big enough to be on the harness and leash outside, Violet is just too tiny and slips out of it so she goes for car rides or sits with us if she cant get loose but doesnt go out as often. Barrett and Niner have harnesses with bells on them though and if they want to go for a walk they will usually drag the harness around so sometimes i just listen for the bell. HAHA!
