Thank you for such great advice. I was wondering what to do about the smelling problem. Your post really helped me out.

I have gotten the information that a ferret can drown in as small as 1 tsp of water, because they can not cough or clear their sinus. Has anyone heard this?

I was told by someone who used to own feerets that is is ok to lightly spray them with very watered down baking soda to help reduce the smell. is that ok? i've notivced the smell gets a lot worse if i dont at leats let them play in water once a week. i'm tempted to try the baking soda but i dont want to hurt my babies

Does anyone have any ideas for reducing the odor of an adrenal male? Waffle is a very stinky little boy.. he got a bath recently because he pooped in his carrier and rolled in it, but other than that I don't bathe him more than once every 6 months. I scoop poop every morning, and feed 8 in 1 ultimate and Zupreem. He gets soup twice a day because he takes medication, it has 'tone, 'vite, Vivify, A/D, eggs, and goat's milk. He gets Lupron shots, but can't get the surgery because he's about 4 and has other medical problems.

I dont bathe my guy, but he LOVES it when I warm up the bathroom and put maybe 3 inches of warm water in the tub with his toys. My tub floor is slightly slanted so the back end of the tub is dry and he can romp and play in the front end get all water and then run to the back of the tub and do his war dance. When hes done we drain the water I line the bottom of the tub with a towel warmed in the dryer and then as hes rolling around and snuffling on the warm towel I cover him with another warm towel and the tunneling games begin. He dries himself this way and has a wonderful time. I used to think he had to have bathes all the time and then I realized NOPE he keeps himself very clean and as long as I do my job he smells like a wonderful warm fuzzy. He chooses when its time for bathtub play, he will get one of his bingley balls and run to the tub and jump jump jump jump until either my husband or I will finally come to see why his ringing his ball. LOL We thought we were training him to come to the ball sound and he turned it around on us. But I kinda figure if I expect him to show up when I rattle the ball, he has the right to expect it too.

Another idea that I use...for the heavy deep clean kinda bath I'm still using a ferret shampoo -stuff will take the stink off a skunk- but in between, when we start to get a little ripe, we use no tears johnson & johnson baby shampoo...cleans up the fur without drying out the oils on my stinky's skin!! And we all know that this is where alot of the stink comes from!!

Buddy used to have a bowl of water in his cage and he would dump all the water out and then spill his food in it and run through it until it was a stinky brown muck and then drag himself through it. So we were rinsing him frequently and shampooing every other week. However, we got him a water bottle for in his cage (he still gets a bowl while he's out so that he can play), and he is much cleaner. He loves to come in the shower with us every once and a while, but he just plays in the bathroom and ducks in and out of the shower as he pleases, so he doesn't get very wet most of the time. He keeps himself pretty much clean other than that and we only shampoo him when he is dirty. He loves taking a warm shower! We keep an extractor fan in the window of his room on the days that are warm enough to have the window open. We live in an attic and it can get stuffy and smelly in his room sometimes (he shares a room with gerbils too) and the fan really helps
